Dear Vega ISD Community:
Last week marked the end of the first nine week grading period - and the halfway point for the fall semester. It’s hard to believe time has passed so quickly and we’re in the middle of October. Report cards will be mailed out this week so be sure to look for these coming home.
Last week our junior high student council attended a convention in Canyon learning about leadership and making a difference at school. Our PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. Our 2nd - 4th grade students who met their AR Reading Goals had their reward day. We continued with the 4-H food drive throughout the week and it was a lot of fun seeing our students, especially our elementary students, coming to school with bags of canned goods to help those in need in our community.
Last Wednesday our junior high and high school Cross Country Teams competed at the District Cross Country Meet. Congratulations to our junior high girls who placed 2nd at the District Cross Country Meet in Stratford. The JV and Varsity volleyball teams took on district matches last and the football team had an open week as both sports gear up for the second part of their seasons. The football team starts district play this week and the Volleyball team enters the second part of the season with a 2-1 district record.
Sophomores and Juniors took the PSAT on Tuesday and the SAT on Wednesday as part of their college preparation. The annual book fair is off and running this week in the JH/Elem library.
Next week marks the beginning of two different events. First of all, the hybrid 4-day schedule begins next week. There will be no school for students on Friday, October 24th, but this will be a staff professional development day. Also next week is Red Ribbon Week! Our students and staff will have the opportunity to participate in dress up days next week - Monday PJ Day - Put Drugs to Sleep; Tuesday - Hawaiian Day - Lei Off Drugs; Wednesday - Believe in magic, not drugs! - Disney Day; Thursday - costume day say boo to drugs!
Be sure to check out our webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
