Dear Vega ISD Community:

So many wonderful events have been happening in Vega ISD!

Last Friday was Goodies with Grandparents where lots of cookies, lemonade, pictures, and good times were had by all.  As I was greeting our grandparents in the cafeteria and watching all of the interactions, I couldn’t help but remember when our kids were in elementary school and their grandparents came to school to be with them for their own version of Goodies with Grandparents.  I know how special those memories are to us and it was fun to see those memories being made for others.

On Wednesday the entire district participated in an evacuation drill off campus along with the Sheriff’s Office and Vega EMS to practice being safe and prepared.  Everyone did such a great job with the drill and we appreciate our community support with this.

I was able to be in the kindergarten and PreK classrooms during the pledge of allegiance and moment of silence this week and our kids do such a great job of respecting our country and saying their pledges!

The mini-cheerleaders performed at the pep rally and at the football game on Friday.  A special thanks goes out to our cheer squad and sponsors for their investment of time and energy into our school and our elementary students with this event.

Last week was school picture day and our seniors had their senior portraits made.  Our 2nd and 3rd graders traveled to the TriState Fair last week and had a picnic lunch at a park in Amarillo.  I was able to stop by the park and thank our teachers and parent volunteers for taking our classes to the fair and providing this experience for our students.

Our JV and Varsity Volleyball teams were busy last week with wins over Childress and competing in tough matches against Friona and Portales on Saturday.  The junior high volleyball teams swept their Monday night match against Wildorado.  Nine of our cross country runners placed this past Saturday at the Stratford Cross Country Meet.  Two of our students competed at the Tri-State Archery competition last week.

Our high school Spanish class celebrated Mexican Independence Day last week by making delicious bunuelos which was a tasty way to learn about culture and tradition.  The FFA had a kick off party Monday night which had great food and fellowship and on Friday they held a fundraiser selling hot and iced coffee and pastries before school - it was a great way to start off a Friday!
