Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

As we turn the calendar to October, many wonderful activities are going on within our Vega schools.  Last week was one of my favorite annual events - See You at the Pole.  On behalf of our school district, we certainly want to thank our community members and local churches for providing milk, orange juice, and donuts for all of our students and staff attending See You at the Pole.  This was truly a spectacular community supported event that underscored the value of prayer throughout our Vega community.

Last Thursday the district provided a pancake and bacon breakfast to all of our staff members as a thank you and appreciation for everyone’s hard work and dedication.

Last week the Varsity and Junior High Football teams traveled to Olton for their games.  Both teams worked hard but came up short on the scoreboard.  On Saturday several of the high school UIL academic and OAP students and staff traveled to Canyon to attend a UIL Student Activity Conference to prepare for their upcoming events.  The junior high and elementary students have been studying their UIL academic contest materials and trying out for their teams for their upcoming contest in November.

Our SHAC committee annually works with the Bushland Clinic to provide flu shots for staff and we were able to do this again this past Monday.  Both the junior high and high school cross country teams traveled to Spearman for the Palo Duro Lake Cross Country Meet while the high school speech dual credit students traveled to Amarillo College to give their speeches.

Our students continue to work really hard in their classroom activities.  Throughout elementary, junior high, and high school classrooms, I have seen students working together on their lessons and teachers supporting students and asking great questions to promote critical thinking and reasoning skills.  I am so impressed with how well our students know how to take care of business and listen to what their teachers are saying.  There is lots of great learning taking place in our classrooms.

Be sure to check out our webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
