Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

This past week our students were able to host Veterans for a lunch and a Veteran’s Day program where the elementary students performed songs and the high school band played the national anthem.  Our FFA students recognized Veterans for their service during the program.  This was a special day and special event where our students were able to acknowledge and show appreciation for the Veterans in our community.

Football season ended last week with the junior high hosting Bovina last Thursday and the Varsity football team traveling to Bovina last Friday.  The junior high girls basketball teams opened up their season last week against Sanford Fritch.  The girls JV and Varsity basketball teams opened up their season last Saturday with wins against Hartley and followed up with wins this past Tuesday against Friona.

Last Friday, several high school students attended a College and Career Fair at Boys Ranch and on Monday of this week our district hosted the Blood Drive from United Way and the FAFSA Night.

Last week one of our FFA students, Trypp Busby, attended the TCFA Feedyard Technical Program - Machinery Operation, Repair, and Maintenance and earned the second-highest individual score.

Congratulations to our FFA students competing in the district LDEs this week.  We had seventeen students travel to the contests with two 8th grade chapter conducting teams, senior creed speaker, Greenhand creed speaker, Greenhand Spanish creed speaker.  Congratulations are in store for our Greenhand creed speaker who placed 2nd overall and will advance to area competition!
