Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

We hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Our students were certainly busy.  Several of the district meets have occurred and our students have been very successful.  Please be sure to check out the district’s webpage and facebook pages for more information and pictures.

Next week STAAR testing begins.  Please check out the district’s calendar for specific testing dates.  This will be our students’ time to shine and showcase their hard work in the classroom and the tremendous support they’ve received from their teachers!

Our elementary school is getting ready for our annual PreK Round Up on Friday, April 24th.  If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling a PreK student in Vega ISD, please be sure to attend the Round Up!  More details are on the webpage and Facebook page.  The elementary school was also able to award the Longhorn Leaders for the 3rd nine week grading period.  These students set such a great example of leadership and being a good friend to others.

The Texas Cattlefeeders Association Cattle Handling workshop was held last week and many of our senior Vega FFA students were able to attend and participate in the event.  We appreciate Kirkland Feedyard for hosting this event.

Last week the UIL District Academic results were released.  We had 29 students competing in 18 different events and the team earned an impressive 4th place overall finish.  Moreover, 10 of our students will advance to the UIL Regional Academic meet.  Our Journalism Team earned 1st place, our Mathematics team won 1st place and will advance to Regionals, our Spelling team won 2nd place, and our Calculator team won 2nd place and will advance to Regionals as the Wildcard team.  Please be sure to see the district’s webpage and Facebook page for more details and pictures.

The Tennis District Meet was last week and the Girls Tennis Team won 1st Place Overall and Won the District in the Girls Division.  This is the second time in the past three years the Girls have captured the Girls Division District Championship.  Moreover, five of our tennis players medaled and four of our girls tennis players will advance to the Regional Tennis meet in two weeks.  The Lady Horns captured 1st place in Girls Doubles & Girls Singles, 2nd place in Girls Singles, and 3rd place in Boys singles.  The JV Girls Doubles also won 1st Place and 2nd Place.

The One Act Play cast and crew competed at the Bi-District OAP Contest last week in Wellington.  Everyone did such a great job with the play and I thought it was their best performance yet!  They came away with a 5th place finish along with several recognitions including the tech award, honorable mention all-star cast, and all-star cast.

The Golf District Meet was completed on Monday and the Girls Golf team finished in 2nd place and qualified for the Regional Golf Meet next week.  The girls have had a fantastic season and we are excited to see their next competition.  The Boys Golf team worked hard and ended up in 4th place at the District meet ending their season.  It was fun watching them play this season.

Our tracksters competed at the Panhandle Relays last week for both junior high and high school and did a great job both days.  Our student athletes keep getting better and better.  They are getting ready for this week’s District Meet - and they’re ready to go!!!!!

Thank you,
