Dear Vega ISD Community:
As we enter into the last two weeks of the school year, our students continue to excel in their many activities. We were able to recognize 17 of our seniors for completing at least 15 college hours of Dual Credit through Amarillo College during their high school career. These students will begin college already classified as half-way through their freshmen year! Last week was teacher appreciation week and we want to thank our School Board for making breakfast for our staff on Monday, the PTO for providing a teacher appreciation lunch on Tuesday, and CCF Church for providing a staff lunch on Thursday. We also enjoyed hosting all of our moms last week at the elementary school with Muffins for Moms.
Our dual credit students at the high school are taking their college final exams this week while preparing for their high school final exams next week. Our 2nd-6th grade students are preparing for their field trip to Wonderland. Our 7th and 8th grade students are getting ready for their field trip to Ceta Canyon while our elementary school is preparing for bike safety day. Of course, senior skip day is planned for this Thursday. Last week our 3rd graders took a girls trip to the Clovis Air Force Base and the PreK, Kindergarten and 1st grade went to Paramount Baptist while our 5th graders had farm safety day in Hereford.
Our seniors were welcomed by Vega Methodist Church for the Annual Strawberry Breakfast this week. Senior activities will continue with the Baccalaureate service on Sunday followed by a meal for the seniors at the Vega First Baptist Church.
Our FFA held its Vega FFA Banquet this week and congratulations to all of the students who were recognized. We had students compete at the Top of Texas Showdown Ag Mechanics Show with seven of our students placing in their class along with earning Division and Reserve Division Champions.
Wednesday morning was the emergency escort send off for the State Track Meet and Sunday morning will be emergency escort send off for the UIL State Academic Meet. Our tracketer is competing in the 400 meter run and our academician is competing in Copy Editing. It’s fantastic to have students competing at the State Meets.
We are very proud of our girls golf team who competed at the State Golf Meet this past week. They finished the season in the top 10 in the State with their competition at the meet.
A big time congratulations to Hannah and Rachel Adams for winning 3rd Place at the Tennis UIL State Championships this past week. This girls doubles team earned a bronze state medal for their fantastic performance at the State Tournament.
Next week will be filled with awards programs at all campuses and our high school graduation ceremony.
Summer camp registration information has been posted to the district’s Facebook page. Be sure to check this out for football, basketball, and volleyball registration links.
Be sure to visit our webpage and Facebook pages for pictures and more information about these and other events for our students.
We have sent out a planning survey to our current students and their parents. We ask that all current parents complete the planning survey for each student enrolled in Vega ISD. This information will help us in planning for next school year so we have accurate class size estimates and be able to plan the transportation routes in advance. We thank you in advance for completing this survey.
Our transfer campaign is underway on our website and social media. If you feel comfortable doing so, please “like” the social media posts and share them on your own social media pages. If you need any help in doing this, please reach out to our office. We would be glad to help. If you know of any family who might be interested in attending an A-Rated district dedicated to student academic success with personalized learning and diverse opportunities, please have them reach out to our campuses or district office for more information.
When you visit the district’s website, it opens up to the transfer landing page where you will find more information about Vega ISD along with the transfer application. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues. This week our students began taking their STAAR tests. Our students and teachers have worked really hard this school year on their academic preparation and this is our time to showcase the learning from this school year.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
