Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

This has been an exciting week at school as we welcome back our staff! On Monday we held training for our substitute teachers and an orientation for all of our new staff members. On Tuesday, all of our returning staff members reported back for duty. It was great to see everyone again and how hard everyone is working to get ready for our students next Wednesday, August 12th for the first day of school! Online registration has opened for the 2026-2027 school year. Please be sure to register your students for school. All students - both new and returning - should register for school.

This Thursday, August 6th at 5 PM will be the annual Title 1/GT Parent Meeting in the auditorium followed at 5:30 PM by the Meet the Teacher night.  Please be sure to join us.

As a reminder, the first day of classes for the upcoming school year will be Wednesday, August 12th.  School will begin at 7:40 AM and will be dismissed at 3:54 PM. This will be our second year of the hybrid schedule.  The first nine weeks of the school year will be five day weeks (with holidays on the Federal holidays of Labor Day on September 7th and Columbus Day on October 12th). The fourth week in October will mark the beginning of the four day weeks on the hybrid calendar as the district will be closed on Friday, October 23rd.  A copy of the 2026-27 school calendar is on the district’s webpage.

School supply lists are available on the district’s website under “student resources” and have been posted on the district’s Facebook page.  All families will need to complete online student registration and information on completing this can be found on the district’s website as well.

Our football and volleyball players have begun their two-a-day workouts this week in preparation for their upcoming seasons so it’s great to see students already back at school.

As a reminder, due to the construction repair project, the student parking lot on the north side of the high school will not be available until later in August - most likely not until the final week of August - as the contractors have finished the work of replacing the entire sewer line and are finishing up parking lot repairs at this point.  We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause but we are very excited that the construction defects from the original sewer line installation have been corrected, including the sinkhole that had been in the student parking lot.  The high school campus will send out more information about temporary parking choices as the start of school gets closer and we have more updated information.

Parents will also note that the district is relocating student transportation services (buses and vans) to the renovated bus barn (the former elementary gym) in the front of the school building.  In order to promote student safety for the district’s transportation services, the subsequent parking lot in front of the renovated bus barn will not be open for parent traffic or parking.  This is where students will get on and get off of the buses and vans.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we are very happy to have a structure to protect the district’s vehicle fleet from the elements and extend the lifetime of our buses and vans.

Vega ISD is now accepting transfer applications for next school year. If you know of any families who would be interested in attending an A-Rated school district, please have them visit our website and reach out to our campuses. When you visit the district’s website, it opens up to the transfer landing page where you will find more information about Vega ISD along with the transfer application. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams

Superintendent, Vega ISD
