Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

Welcome back to school!

This has been such a fun week meeting so many new students and families to Vega ISD while also welcoming back our returning students and families. Our enrollment is up and we are excited to have so many Longhorns and Shorthorns in our district!

There were so many pictures taken on the first day of school.  It was a lot of fun greeting our parents and students as they came into the building on the first day of school!  Our teachers are so excited to see our students back in their classrooms this school year!

We have more route riders this year than we have had in a long time.  While this is great news that we have more students, we also are short drivers, especially those with a CDL and school bus endorsement.  The number of drivers we have directly affects our routes and the length of time students are on a route, which we try to limit as much as possible.  If you are interested in driving a route - especially if you have a CDL and school bus endorsement, please reach out to the school.  We want to thank all of our parents for your cooperation and support with our routes and any changes we have had to make as a result of limited drivers.

Even though it’s the first week of school, our high school volleyball teams have begun playing with the Varsity team winning their first two matches against larger Amarillo schools and the JV volleyball team splitting their first two matches.  Our football team will have their first scrimmage of the season this Friday at Sanford Fritch.  It’s exciting to see our students so involved with their extracurricular activities.

The construction repair projects are in their final stages and we anticipate the north parking lot opening back up towards the end of the month.  We would like to thank everyone for making adjustments to the drop off and pick up lines as a result of the parking lot work and the relocation of the bus barn.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
