Dear Vega ISD Community:
What a great first week of school for the Vega Longhorns! Itβs been so much fun welcoming everyone back and getting into the routine of school and our daily lessons.
Last week the Texas Education Agency released the long-awaited accountability ratings for all public schools. Vega ISD earned an all βAβ rating for the district and all three campuses. We are so proud of our students and staff for their hard work which results in these fantastic accomplishments! Be sure to visit our webpage and Facebook page for more information.
On top of the straight A rating, we earned fourteen additional Distinction Designations. These Distinction Designations are determined by comparing districts with βsimilar districtsβ determined by TEA from across the state. These βsimilar districtsβ are compared together to determine which districts and campuses are awarded Distinctions. Some noteworthy accomplishments include: (1) each campus earning Distinction Designations in both Academic Achievement in RLA and Math; (2) VES earning top 25% in comparative academic growth; and (3) VJH and VHS earning top 25% comparative closing the gaps. The only Distinction Designation awarded at the district level is postsecondary readiness, which VISD also received. More information about school accountability ratings can be found at: https://txschools.gov/.
Last week Mr. Osborn and Gavin Ellis taught our 6th grade students how to properly fold and fly the American flag. Each morning and afternoon our students proudly fold and fly the American and Texas flags in front of our school!
Volleyball is in full swing for both the Lady Horns and the Shorthorns! The junior high Lady Shorthorns opened up the volleyball season with a set of wins this past Monday. The Varsity Lady Horns have been playing lots of volleyball already during this short school year and captured the Championship at the Dimmitt Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. The JV Lady Horns also did a great job capturing 2nd Place in the tournament. Both teams are working very hard. Be sure to come out and watch the volleyball teams!
The football team traveled to Stinnett last week for the first scrimmage of the year against West Texas High School. This Friday, the Longhorn football team will host our final scrimmage in Vega against Panhandle. Be sure to come out and cheer on the football team!
Also, mark your calendars for September 3rd for the Homecoming Bonfire and Meet the Longhorns.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
