Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

We have begun the second half of the fall semester and as the morning temperatures grow colder, the activities of the school year continue to heat up. This week marks the first of the hybrid 4-day weeks for our students. Staff will have a professional development day at school this Friday while students will not have classes.

October is National Principal’s Month and our district is blessed to have two outstanding principals in Mrs. Rosas and Mrs. Porton.  When you see them be sure to thank them for all the time, effort, and love they pour into our students and staff.  They are two of my favorite principals I have had the pleasure of working with during my career.

The Honor Rolls were posted last week for the A and the A/B Honor Rolls. We are proud of our students’ academic efforts and achievements. Last week we had the annual Book Fair at the junior high/elementary school. We also had Donuts with Dads and a courtyard send off for our football team as they traveled to Farwell for the first district contest. The Longhorns came up short but played really hard the entire game.

Our high school marching band competed at the UIL Marching Contest last Saturday and earned an Excellent rating from the contest judges. It was the best performance of the marching show by the band and they did a great job laying it on the line and giving their best for the contest.

We are excited about hosting a game day tailgate party in the Vega High School Parking lot on Friday at 3 PM before the 4 PM volleyball game and the 7 PM football games. This weekend is the annual PTO Fall Festival at the elementary school. It will be a fun time for everyone.

Be sure to check out our webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
