Dear Vega ISD Community:
We want to wish our students, staff, and community a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This time of year can be very busy with all of the activities and festivities. One of the huge blessings we have living in Vega is the focus our community places on the meaning of the Christmas season. While there are so many decorations and festivities that highlight the Christmas season, seeing how everyone cares for one another and finds ways to bless one another and prays for each other is the true blessing.
As we celebrate and enjoy time with family and friends, be sure to slow down a little and take in the true gift of Christmas and how the birth of Christ brings a new beginning to all of us as we get ready for the New Year. And with this, the birth of Christ brings peace and joy to the world for each of us. My prayer and Christmas wish for you is that you experience the fullness of peace and joy that only the celebration of the birth of Christ and the Christmas season can bring.
This semester has been filled with lots of learning by our students and our teachers and staff working really hard to provide these exceptional learning experiences. Our high school dual credit students have been finishing up their college semester exams while our junior high and high school students have been preparing for their final exams for their courses as well. Our FFA students attended the Amarillo District Banquet last week. One of our members was elected the District Secretary and placed 2nd at the Amarillo District FFA Speaking Contest in Ag Technology and will advance to Area in May! Be sure to check out our webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures.
The 7th-12th grade bands performed their annual Christmas Concert last week and everyone enjoyed the Christmas music. The high school theater classes did an amazing job with their Christmas play this past week as well. Our elementary students will have their AR rewards this week, the Student Council will host their movie and popcorn day, and the elementary classes will have their Christmas parties to end the week. We will have the elementary Christmas Program and the Elementary and Junior High UIL Academic Meet Awards will be presented as well. We are so proud of Mrs. Brorman’s 2nd Grade class who all successfully earned their Accelerated Reader Points for the 2nd nine-week grading period - we are so proud of our students (and appreciate their parents’ support) to get all of this reading done!
The Christmas Door Decoration Contest was lots of fun this year. Mrs. Busby’s 5th Period class was the winner with shout outs going to Coach McCrummen’s and Mrs. Black’s doors as well. Check out our facebook page for pictures of all of the doors.
Our basketball teams at both the junior high and high school continue to play and do well. Our varsity girls basketball team entered the state rankings this past week at #23 in the state for 2A. Our boys and girls varsity basketball teams will also compete in the Annual Caprock Basketball Tournament in Lubbock. Be sure to check out our webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures.
The fall semester ends this Friday and we will be on Christmas break for the next two weeks. Our staff will return to duty on Monday, January 5th and our students will return for the first day of classes for the spring semester on Tuesday, January 6th.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
