Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

I’m not sure where the month of January went, but it’s gone and we have turned the calendar to February.  This is an exciting time of the school year as the next two months will go by so fast but will have many important milestones for everyone.

Be sure to keep in communication with your child’s teacher about how your student is progressing in their classes.  This is a great time to find opportunities for accelerated learning to ensure everyone is on target or exceeding expectations with their academic work while there is still plenty of time in the Spring semester to demonstrate growth and mastery of material.

Our A and A/B Honor Roll was recognized last week.  Congratulations to our students for their hard work in the classroom.  Please see our Facebook and District webpage for pictures and more information.

This week, our students in 4th, 5th, and 7th grades are taking the ELAR STAAR Field test.  These grade levels were selected by TEA to participate in the field test, which the state uses to develop test questions for future years.  Schools are required to administer these exams within specific timeframes.

The High School Student Council will attend the STUCO Convention.  The Ag Mechanics students will travel to the San Angelo Ag Mech show to participate in more contests.  The junior high solo and ensemble contest is at Palo Duro and the high school solo and ensemble contest is at WTAMU.  We wish all of our students the best of luck at these events and are proud of the time and effort they have invested.

This Friday will be senior night for basketball as we host Gruver.  The varsity girls basketball team has clinched a playoff spot and are getting ready for their upcoming bi-district playoff game in two weeks.  They will have two more games left before playoffs.  The varsity boys will have four more games remaining in their regular season.  The junior high basketball teams traveled to the district tournament last week and the boys went 2-0, the girls black team went 2-0, and the girls gold team went 1-1.  Junior high basketball wrapped up their season this week and did such a great job!

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
