Dear Vega ISD Community:
We hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather over Spring Break last week. Please visit the district’s webpage and Facebook pages for pictures and more information about all of the events described here.
Our students have been very active over the past several weeks. Before Spring Break Vega hosted the junior high and high school Longhorn Relay Track Meets. Our junior high track team is already breaking school records and doing a great job! The Golf team competed at the Holy Cross Golf Tournament where the Lady Horns won 2nd place. The boys powerlifting team traveled to Abilene for the Regional Competition and three of our students placed and Cason Lam qualified for the State Meet. The tennis team traveled to the Reagan County Tennis Tournament with all of our players earning tournament wins and our boys doubles team placing second in the consolidation bracket.
Our elementary students had their 3rd Nine Weeks Accelerated Reader Party. It’s always fun to see our students celebrate their successes in reading.
During Spring Break, our Ag Mech students traveled to the Houston Ag Mech Contest. Ten of our students earned Blue Ribbons for their projects and five of our students placed. Our tennis team traveled to Lubbock for the Abernathy Tennis Tournament with our girls doubles varsity team winning first place, our girls doubles JV teams placing first and second, and our boys singles placing third.
Five of our varsity boys basketball players were named to the Academic All District Team.
This week our students are preparing for the Boys State Powerlifting Meet and the UIL District Academic Contest. In addition, our high school gave the PSAT on Tuesday and the SAT on Wednesday. The golf team is traveling to the Sanford Fritch Golf Tournament and the tennis team is competing at the Levelland tennis tournament this week while the junior high track travels to Panhandle and the high school track competes at the Amarillo Relays.
We want to thank our school counselor, Mrs. Paschel, for organizing our district’s first ever Career on Wheels event for our PreK-6th grade students to learn about different careers involving outside activities and keep the world moving! We want to thank our community and business partners for participating in the event to make it successful and fun for our students!
Our transfer campaign has begun in order to increase student enrollment. Last year we were very successful as we increased the number of transfer students accepted to our district by 25 students. Another increase of 25 students throughout the district (that’s about two students per grade level or about eight families of three school-age children each) would go a long way in providing the necessary state revenue for our district in order to maintain the level of service we currently provide. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues. Check out our transfer landing page on the district’s website that talks about our school and how to apply for a transfer. If you feel comfortable doing so, please “like” the social media posts and share them on your own social media pages. If you need any help in doing this, please reach out to our office. We would be glad to help. If you know of any family who might be interested in attending an A-Rated district dedicated to student academic success with personalized learning and diverse opportunities on a 4-day hybrid school calendar, please have them reach out to our campuses or district office for more information.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
