Dear Vega ISD Community:
This is teacher appreciation week so be sure to show your appreciation for our fantastic teachers when you see them at school and around town. Our School Board started making breakfast burritos for our staff early Monday morning at 6:30 AM to start off the week showing their appreciation for the hard work that occurs each and every day in our classrooms and school buildings. We are appreciative of our School Board for doing this. The PTO provided a teacher appreciation lunch for our staff on Tuesday and CCF Church provided a staff lunch for everyone on Thursday. Our staff certainly feels the support and appreciation from our Vega community. Thank you!
This was mentioned last week, but we are so excited and appreciative about our new marquee, we want to mention it again: We are very appreciative of Boralex who provided a grant to the district to pay for the entire cost of the new marquee. There were no district funds expended from our budget for this project. We appreciate Daniel Fetterman from Boralex who encouraged us to complete the grant application and assisted us through the grant process.
Last week our 3rd graders attended a field trip to Wildcat Bluff while our PreK and kindergarten students took their field trip around Vega. Our seniors made their college decision day announcements. The juniors traveled to West Texas A&M for a college visit while students finished up our Algebra 1 EOC testing at the high school. High School letter jacket orders were made last week as well, which is an exciting time for students.
Last Friday and Saturday was the regional track meet. One of our students qualified for STATE Track in the 400 M run and set a school record in the process. We are so proud of all of our regional qualifying tracksters and of our STATE qualifier!
Last Friday, we held a send off for the State Qualifying Girls Golf team who competed in Austin on Monday and Tuesday at the State Golf Tournament. We are so proud of our Girls Golf Team for their accomplishments this season!
On Tuesday, we held a send off for the State Qualifying Girls Doubles Tennis team who will compete in San Antonio at the State Tennis Tournament beginning on Thursday. We wish our girls doubles tennis team the best of luck and are so proud of their accomplishments.
Our junior high tennis players competed in tournaments the past two weekends in Amarillo and did such a great job.
Be sure to visit our webpage and Facebook pages for pictures and more information about these and other events for our students.
We have sent out a planning survey to our current students and their parents. We ask that all current parents complete the planning survey for each student enrolled in Vega ISD. This information will help us in planning for next school year so we have accurate class size estimates and be able to plan the transportation routes in advance. We thank you in advance for completing this survey.
Our transfer campaign is underway on our website and social media. If you feel comfortable doing so, please “like” the social media posts and share them on your own social media pages. If you need any help in doing this, please reach out to our office. We would be glad to help. If you know of any family who might be interested in attending an A-Rated district dedicated to student academic success with personalized learning and diverse opportunities, please have them reach out to our campuses or district office for more information.
When you visit the district’s website, it opens up to the transfer landing page where you will find more information about Vega ISD along with the transfer application. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues. This week our students began taking their STAAR tests. Our students and teachers have worked really hard this school year on their academic preparation and this is our time to showcase the learning from this school year.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
