Dear Vega ISD Community:
With the slightly cooler weather this week, we mark the official beginning of the fall season.
Six week report cards are available on the Ascender Parent Portal.
Last week our district conducted our annual bus evacuation and parent/student reunification drill. Our students did a great job during the drill and we appreciate the parent volunteers who helped us practice our reunification processes. We also appreciate the City Marshall, Sheriff Department, and DPS for participating in the drill with us and providing valuable feedback as we always try to improve.
During PE class last week our students learned about that manners matter during their Hope Choice lesson. Also two Vega alumni who work for American Medical Response came out to Vega last week to work with our nursing students and share all about their jobs and experiences in emergency medical service. The ambulance came too to provide our students with that experience as well! Please see the district’s Facebook page for pictures and more information.
The Vega FFA had a great showing at the Tri-State Fair this past weekend. Thirteen of our students placed in their competitions including three first place winners and a grand champion! The Vega FFA earned 2nd place in Sweepstakes! Congratulations to everyone involved. Our students were also able to attend the Area 1 Greenhand Conference. The junior high volleyball team played well against St. Anthony’s last week splitting the matches with the 7th grade picking up the win and the 8th grade falling short. The junior high football team played well last week also last week with the 7th grade winning by a lot against Sudan and the 8th grade dropping a close game.
The cross country teams traveled to Amarillo College over the weekend for their meet and two of our runners placed and most of our runners set new PRs! Please see the district’s Facebook page for pictures and more information.
The JV volleyball team picked up a win against Ropes last week before dropping their dual match games over the weekend against Friona and Portales. The Varsity volleyball team lost a nailbiter in 5 games against Ropes and split their dual match over the weekend beating Friona in 5 games before falling to Portales. Last Friday was the courtyard send off for the football team as they traveled to Sudan and picked up another impressive victory on the season improving their record to 4-0.
