Oldham Co. Spelling Bee

In a battle of words, young spellers from Oldham County showcased their spelling skills at the Oldham County Spelling Bee held at Vega ISD on January 25. The junior division of the competition witnessed a thrilling showdown among seven participants, lasting an impressive 21 rounds.

Taking center stage as the junior bee champion was Creed Ragland from Vega Elementary. Ragland, the son of Ronnie and Megan Ragland, clinched victory with the correct spelling of "gently." Creed advanced to the senior spelling bee with hopes of securing a spot in the Regional Spelling Bee.

In the senior division, the competition was fierce, with spellers competing for the chance to represent Oldham County on a broader stage. After an intense 18 rounds, Brooke Williamson, an 8th-grade student at Wildorado Junior High, emerged as the victor. Brooke, daughter of Holley and Scott Williamson, showcased exceptional spelling skills and composure under pressure.

Brooke Williamson is now set to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee, scheduled to take place at Tascosa High School on February 10, 2024. The regional event promises to be another challenging yet rewarding experience for the talented young speller.

Congratulations to all the spellers participating in the Oldham County Spelling Bee this year.
