Texas school and child-care facility immunization requirements are determined by the state legislature and set by the Texas Department of State Health Services, in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency.  The Texas Department of State Health Services has ruled that students must be current with immunizations in order to attend school unless an exemption has been filed with the school in accordance with Texas Education Code, Health and Safety, Chapter 38.0001. 

Maintaining adequate immunization rates in schools is critical to preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring the health of Texas children.

According to state requirements, a student shall show acceptable evidence of vaccination before entry, attendance, or transfer to a district.  25 TAC 97.63(2)
