VISD Library Materials Selection

VISD Libraries are designed to provide a balanced collection of materials that:

  • Enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration varied interests, abilities, learning styles, and maturity levels.

  • Stimulate growth in factual knowledge, enjoyment of reading, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and societal standards

  • Present various sides of controversial issues in an objective, balanced matter.

  • Represent many ethnic, religious and cultural groups; reflect the diversity of students and staff, and foster an understanding and appreciation of culture, class, language, ethnicity, and other differences in society.

  • Respect the rights and values of individuals and families.

Book Challenge Policy & Procedure

Under EFB(LOCAL) a district employee, parent or guardian of a District student, or a District resident can challenge library material. They shall follow the procedures to complete and submit the challenge form.

PROCEDURE

  1. A Library Challenge Form must completed. One form is to be completed for each book in challenge.

  2. Submit the challenge form to the email addresses listed on the form or deliver to the Superintendent of Vega ISD.

  3. A copy of the challenge form will be made available to the SLAC no later than 5 days after the the form is submitted.

  4. The SLAC will review the challenge and make a ruling no later than 90 days after the date which the committee receives the copy.

  5. The board of trustees will take action at the first open meeting after the 90 day review period.
