VEGA ISD GIFTED & TALENTED SERVICES

CURRENT VEGA ISD STUDENTS:

A student enrolled in Vega ISD may be referred for Gifted and Talented (GT) services by a:

  • Teacher, counselor, or campus administrator

  • Parent, guardian, or other adult familiar with the student's abilities

  • Student through self referral

If someone other than the parent or guardian refers the student for GT services, parents will be notified. This must occur in order to give the campus permission to assess the student.

The referral window for students open October 1 through October 31. Throughout the evaluation process, additional assessment will be conducted. After the evaluation is complete, a committee of GT trained educators will review the anonymous data and make all identification and service decisions as required by the Texas State Plan. Parents or guardians will then be notified of the committee's decision.

NEW TO VEGA ISD STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED GT SERVICES AT THEIR PREVIOUS DISTRICT:

Students who are new to Vega ISD and previously received GT services should complete the appropriate form in order for Vega ISD to request GT assessment records from the previous district.

Once the records are received, a committee of GT trained educators will review the documentation and determine whether the previous district's identification measures and procedures are comparable to those of Vega ISD. Based on the review, the committee will determine the students placement or request additional assessment.
