Vega ISD would like to welcome Ray Cogburn as Interim Superintendent. Mr. Cogburn is our fearless leader as we begin the 2023-24 school year. He didn’t waste any time getting involved at Vega ISD. He is the voice announcing Vega Longhorn football at home games.
Ray grew up in Shamrock and spent a large part of his education career in Shamrock. He retired as the Executive Director from Region 16 a few years back. He has been married to Jackie for 42 years. Jackie is a retired Social Worker who worked as a case manager before retiring. In his own heartfelt words “She is my gal!” They have two children, Kendall, Boys Head Basketball Coach at West Plains. He is married to Kelly, an Accountant for Texas School Business Center (former teacher), they have 2 kids, Kollier who is 9, Karoline 7, and baby Claire is due in September. Kinsey is our daughter. She owns her own online graphic design business, Blue Table Design (She is also a former teacher.). She is married to Chesley Phelps, Investment Officer for Happy State Bank. They live in Lubbock and have two daughters, Cameron, 3, and Ivy, age 1. “I am a blessed man!”
Mr. Cogburn enjoys traveling, camping, part-time work for Ancira Strategies, family time, golf and kicking back at their farm in Shamrock. A perfect weekend would be camping in Colorado or hanging out at their place in Angel Fire. A Bucket List trip for Mr. Cogburn would be to travel to the Holy Land.
When asked to share something that we might now know about him, he shared that he is a barista. We will definitely have to get him to share his exceptional coffee making skills with us.
