Longhorn Weekly 3-18-24

Dear Vega ISD Community,

We are entering the final two months of the school year.  I continue to be impressed as I walk around the hallways throughout our school district.  Our Pre-K students are so attentive to learning and studying their letters.  Today from the hallway as I walked past their classroom I saw them watching a video about the letter M.  The 5th and 6th grade classes took a field trip to the Discovery Center and the Amarillo Zoo.

Continue to check out the district webpage and facebook pages for pictures and updates on student accomplishments.  Two of our FCCLA students were awarded scholarships at the FCCLA Regional Conference in culinary arts.  Our Ag Mech students did another great job in the Houston Ag Mechanics Show this past weekend.

High School students will have the opportunity to take the SAT this week at Vega High School and will have the opportunity to take the ACT next week.  Our students are fortunate to have the opportunity to take these important college entrance exam tests in their own school with familiar surroundings.  Our tennis and track teams will be competing this week in Amarillo.  Our golf and tennis teams will be preparing for their district competitions next week.

It’s that time of the year again for the annual Prom which will be held this upcoming weekend.  We want all of our students to have a great time and to stay safe.

Thanks to everyone who completed the stakeholder survey.  Over the next several weeks we will share the trends we received from the different questions on the survey.  This week we will look at the first question:  What makes Vega ISD special?  The responses we received said that the students, teachers, community and academics all make Vega ISD special.  In addition, the small class sizes, the help everyone receives, and the support provided to our students and teachers makes Vega ISD special.  The words “care”, “family”, “support”, and “special” were all used at a high frequency to describe what makes Vega ISD special.  Be sure and check our social media channels as we share this information.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
