Dear Vega ISD Community:
We wish you and your family a Happy Easter as Vega ISD will be closed on Good Friday and the Monday after Easter. This is a wonderful time to spend with family and enjoy an extended weekend and reflect on the blessings and new life we get to experience because of the Easter season.
Our transfer campaign is underway on our website and social media. If you feel comfortable doing so, please “like” the social media posts and share them on your own social media pages. If you need any help in doing this, please reach out to our office. We would be glad to help. If you know of any family who might be interested in attending an A-Rated district dedicated to student academic success with personalized learning and diverse opportunities, please have them reach out to our campuses or district office for more information.
When you visit the district’s website, it opens up to the transfer landing page where you will find more information about Vega ISD along with the transfer application. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues.
Last week our 1st and 2nd grade students took their end of year Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI). This is an early reading assessment used in Texas schools to help teachers provide targeted instruction in the teaching of reading skills to help students become good readers. This week our grades 3-8 students will take their STAAR RLA test while our high school Biology and US History students will take their End of Course STAAR exams, which are requirements to meet partial graduation standards in Texas. While these students were testing, several of our classes enjoyed field trips as the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students traveled to Little Bee’s and the 1st and 2nd graders traveled to Cnossen Dairy and the Canyon Fire Station.
Last week our Meat and Livestock Judging Teams traveled to Texas Tech for the Area CDE Contest. The annual Vega FFA Ag Mechanics Open House was held this past weekend showcasing the amazing student projects with the silent action. Four of our students competed in Dallas at the State FCCLA Meet this past weekend and they all did a great job. A special congratulations goes out to one of our students who finished in the Top Five in the State in her competition area. Check out the district’s webpage and facebook page for pictures and more information.
The Area Track meet was held in Panhandle last week. All of our Area Qualifiers did a great job at the Area Track meet and a special congratulations goes out to four of our area qualifiers who will advance to the Regional Track meet this upcoming weekend. More congratulations goes out to our boys and girls golf teams who both finished third at the district golf meet capturing bronze medals. Also one of our boys golfers won the individual district championship capturing the gold medal and will advance to the Regional Golf Meet this week. Our junior high tennis team competed at the Amarillo Middle School Invitational Tournament this past weekend and six of our junior high tennis players came home with medals from winning their divisions! The high school tennis team competed in the Canadian Tennis Tournament and had several third place finishes and an appearance in the consolation finals. All of the tennis teams did a lot of winning at the tournament! Check out the district’s webpage and facebook page for pictures and more information.
Our staff wellness program competition with Oldham County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service recently concluded. There was a friendly competition among the Oldham County school districts to see which district’s staff walked the most miles and Vega ISD won the inaugural traveling trophy as the Walk Across Texas Champions for Oldham County!
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
