Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

We are getting ready for the end-of-year activities as we turn the calendar from April to May. Over the past couple of weeks our students have taken their STAAR tests and the high school students have taken their End of Course STAAR tests. Also some of our students took their SAT during school and our Pre-K and Kindergarten students took their end of year CLI tests so teachers and parents can monitor student academic skill growth over the school year. We were able to hold our PreK Round Up to welcome our newest students for next school year as well as hosting the 8th grade transition meeting to prepare our soon-to-be high school freshmen (and their parents) for their next exciting journey!

One of our boys high school golfers qualified for the Regional Tournament before Easter and competed very well. Our tennis team competed at the Rebel Invitational before Easter as well and our Varsity boys doubles team earned a 3rd place finish and girls singles players took 3rd place in the JV division and won the Varsity consolation championship. Four of our girls tracksters qualified for the Regional Track Meet and did a great job! Three of our girls made the finals and one of our girls won 3rd place in the Region in the 400 meter dash!

Last week our tennis team competed at the District Tennis Meet in Spearman. Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Doubles team who were the District Champions and our Varsity Boys Doubles Team who were the District Runner Ups - with each team qualifying for the Regional Tournament next week. Also taking away awards from the District Tennis Meet were the Varsity Mixed Doubles team who captured 3rd place in the District and the JV Girls Doubles team who were the JV Doubles District champions. All of our tennis players had such a strong season!

Also last week eleven of our high school students competed at the Regional UIL Academic Meet. They all did such a great job in their competitions. Two of our students qualified for State UIL Academics - one as the Regional Champion in Copy Editing, another as the 3rd place finisher in Accounting, and a 6th place finish in Editorial Writing. We are proud of our students!

Vega ISD is now accepting transfer applications for next school year. If you know of any families who would be interested in attending an A-Rated school district, please have them visit our website and reach out to our campuses. When you visit the district’s website, it opens up to the transfer landing page where you will find more information about Vega ISD along with the transfer application. Please note that to be eligible to be accepted as a transfer student to Vega ISD, all students must be in good standing with their current school district, have good attendance, and have no discipline issues.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
