Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

We hope our families and community enjoyed the Labor Day Weekend.  This was a well-timed break so our students and staff could catch their breath after such a fast and terrific start to school.

This week our high school dual credit students began their college dual credit courses and progress reports are available through Ascender Parent Portal.  If you have any questions, please be sure to reach out to your student’s teacher.

This is Homecoming Week!  Our students and staff have been dressing up for Homecoming week using theme days set by our cheerleaders including “Party in the USA,” “Decades Day,” “Despicable Me,” and “Black and Gold” Days.  It’s been a lot of fun greeting our students as they arrive at school and seeing so many of them dressed up for the Homecoming days.  Wednesday night was Meet the Longhorns followed by the Homecoming Bonfire.  We are looking forward to the Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday.  Be sure to check out the district’s webpage and social media for pictures and more information.

The junior high football team opens up their season on Thursday at Friona while the Varsity Longhorns welcome Seagraves on Friday.  On Saturday, the cross country team will travel to Nazareth for a competition while the JV and Varsity volleyball teams will travel to Olton.

Last week the JV football team opened up their season and played with great effort against Crosbyton.  The Varsity football team traveled to Crosbyton last Friday night for an opening night victory.

Our volleyball teams have continued to work hard.  Last week the JV volleyball girls did a great job in the Tulia tournament while the Varsity volleyball girls played well against 4A and 5A schools in the Raider Showcase in Canyon.  The JV and Varsity volleyball team traveled to Littlefield earlier this week and split a dual match against Littlefield and Ropes.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
