Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

We enjoyed last week with all of the Homecoming festivities and appreciate the Athletic Booster Club for the meal at Meet the Longhorns and for our Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance with the Bonfire and making sure everything stayed safe throughout the event. The cheerleaders and all of our students did a great job at the Homecoming Pep Rally with the elementary school winning the spirit award. The football Longhorns played a tough game against Seagraves Friday night and never stopped competing but they came up a little short.

Our Ag students have been busy. Several members attended the District FFA Meeting in Dalhart on Monday. Our freshmen Ag students attended Greenhand Camp this week where they were introduced to all aspects of FFA including team building and leadership lessons.

We’re very proud of the newest National Honor Society members at the high school. We are starting the planning for the UIL Academic contests where high school students are beginning to sign up for the contest events to start working on our teams. Our elementary and junior high students will begin preparation for their UIL events in the next couple of weeks as well, so be on the lookout for sign ups. Progress reports went out last week and we are now approaching the mid-point for the first nine-week grading period. If your student is struggling with any of his or her coursework, this is the time to visit with the teacher and find ways to support your student together.

Over the weekend, the junior high volleyball teams all placed at the Friona Tournament.  Congratulations to the 7th grade white team for 2nd place in the silver bracket; the 7th grade gold team for 1st place in the gold bracket; and the 8th grade black team for consolation in the silver bracket. The junior high volleyball team traveled to Sanford-Fritch on Monday with both 7th grade coming away with some wins and the 8th grade team working hard. The JV and Varsity Volleyball teams all won at Olton on Saturday and the Varsity team came up short against Dalhart Tuesday evening.

The cross country team competed in the Nazareth Color Run over the weekend with three of the Longhorn runners taking the top three places at the meet.

Please see the website and facebook page for pictures and more information on all of these wonderful events.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
