Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

This is the last week of October and our PTO did a great job of hosting the annual PTO Carnival last weekend. Lots of fun was had by all!

We are thankful to the PTO for providing new basketball goals for the elementary playground.  The PTO has done a great job with playground upgrades over the past two years and we are very appreciative of them for providing our students with updated equipment.

Last week the district participated in Red Ribbon Week with dress up days with themes to stay away from drugs.

Several of the junior high UIL academic writing events have already begun with our junior high UIL ready writing contest and the 7th and 8th grade editorial writing contests being held last week on each of the campuses. The Elementary/Junior High UIL Academic Meet will be held November 21st at Frank Phillips College in Borger.

Congratulations go out to Mrs. Porton and Ms. Shugar for both being awarded the Education Credit Union Pocket Change Grant. Mrs. Porton received a grant for $750 and Ms. Shugar received a grant for $675.  This grant, funded by the Education Credit Union Foundation, was created to support meaningful classroom projects that enhance learning environments in schools across the Texas Panhandle.

The junior high volleyball teams finished up their season this past Monday against Sanford-Fritch and are now gearing up for basketball season. We will have a Junior High Pep Rally on Thursday of this week. The parents and student organizations hosted a tailgate party last Friday before the doubleheader volleyball and football games. The football team came up short last week in a district match up against Gruver, who is ranked in the top ten of the state while the volleyball team gave Sanford-Fritch all they could handle but came up short in the last district game.

The volleyball girls will travel to Dimmitt to take on Ropes in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Thursday. Good luck to the team as they seek to win another playoff trophy!

Thank you,
