Dear Vega ISD Community:
We hope you and your family are enjoying the spring semester, especially as we enter into the last week of February.
We are really excited to share that Vega Junior High was named a 2025 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll school! Only about 15% of eligible schools in Texas earned this recognition. Our students, staff, and community do such a great job focusing on academics and it shows with this recognition!
Our students and teachers continue to work hard in the classroom preparing students for their academic content. This past week we observed our high school English students studying Romeo and Juliet, which brings back memories from when I studied this my freshmen year. Our students are having a much more engaging experience with the Shakespeare play than I remember having, so kudos to Mrs. Black for providing this for our students! Our 5th graders were working on learning about the terms biotic and abiotic and were learning about species, populations, and communities. Mrs. Robins certainly led a great discussion with her class about these terms. Also our 5th graders were working on graphing concepts in math with Ms. Glitter and how to use different values in a t-chart. All of our classes were so engaging for students.
Our 7th and 8th grade students will take their ELAR Interim assessment this week to gain important information about their strengths and areas for improvement. Be sure to visit with your student about their achievement on this important practice test.
Over the weekend our Art students competed in the VASE competition and all four of them earned a rating of a 4, which is the highest rating possible. Please check out the district’s facebook page for pictures and more information. We are so proud of our Art students and their fantastic creations!
Last week our tennis team competed in the Amarillo Small School Tennis Meet and did very well. Lots of our tennis players came back with trophies and medals for winning or placing in their division. We are very proud of their accomplishments. Our golf team will begin their season this week at the Highland Park Golf Meet and the One Act Play will attend a clinic at Gruver in preparation for their competition next week. The powerlifting team will travel to Lubbock for their competition. Our tennis team will travel to Levelland to compete in their tennis tournament this week as well.
Our Ag Mechanics students are finishing up their projects for the San Antonio Ag Mech show this upcoming weekend and our FCCLA teams will travel to Abilene later this week for their Regional Competition for their projects. We wish all of our students good luck in their upcoming competitions.
This week
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
