Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

All students and staff will have a four day Easter weekend with Good Friday and the Monday after Easter both as holidays.  We held our spring pictures and our kindergarten graduation pictures this week.  It was nice to see everyone dressed up.

Our students will begin taking their STAAR tests during the week of April 14th.  Our teachers and students have been working hard to make sure our students are prepared to do their best.

Last week the Vega High School Student Council hosted a blood drive.  We appreciate everyone who was able to donate blood last week.

You may have noticed some construction work at the school.  We are in the process of converting the auxiliary gym into a bus barn.  We are able to use bond proceeds so there are no costs to the general budget for this project.  We are able to complete this work at a significant cost savings compared with constructing a new building.  As a result of this project, the district will be able to protect the buses and vehicle fleet from the weather and elements and extend their life expectancy.

Congratulations to Cason Lamm for finishing 8th in the State Powerlifting Meet.  Cason also set personal records in the squat and the bench.  Great work!

The boys and girls golf team completed the first day of their district competition and both teams are sitting in 2nd place.  They will compete in the final day of district competition next week.  Great job to our golfers and best wishes next week for a strong finish!

The junior high track team did a great job at Panhandle last week and they’re heading back again this week for more action and success.  The tennis team traveled to Levelland last week and with two teams medaling with first place in girls doubles and first place girls JV doubles consolation.

This week our One Act Play will travel to Wellington to compete in the Bi-District One Act Play competition and our tennis team will travel to Spearman for the Tennis District Meet.  The high school track team will travel to Panhandle on Friday to compete in their track meet.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
