Last week was such a great first week of school to have all of our students back! It was also really nice that classes began Wednesday so everyone could ease into the school week. For our first full week of classes, our students and teachers are working hard establishing class routines and learning expectations. District accountability ratings came out this week and once again Vega ISD earned a rating of an “A” by the Texas Education Agency.
This school year we are excited that through the National School Lunch Program we are able to provide every student a free breakfast.
Our enrollment has increased for the second year in a row! We also have more route riders this year than we have had in a long time. While this is great news that we have more students, we also are short on drivers, especially those with a CDL and school bus endorsement. The number of drivers we have directly affects our routes and the length of time students are on a route, which we try to limit as much as possible. If you are interested in driving a route - especially if you have a CDL and school bus endorsement, please reach out to the school. We want to thank all of our parents for your cooperation and support with our routes and any changes we have had to make as a result of limited drivers.
Last week the varsity volleyball team won all three games to start the season 3-0. This week the girls will play at Dumas and then travel to the Farmersville tournament. The JV volleyball girls played at the Borger tournament over last weekend after splitting their first two matches of the season. The football team traveled to Sandford-Fritch for a scrimmage last week and did a great job. This week the football team will host Plains for the second and final scrimmage.
The construction repair projects are finishing up. We hope the back parking lot will be ready for use next week. We would like to thank everyone for making adjustments to the drop off and pick up lines as a result of the parking lot work and the relocation of the bus barn.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
