Dear Vega ISD Community:
We are in the middle of the third full week of school!
Progress reports are available on the Parent Portal.
Be sure to review your child’s progress report and communicate with their teacher if you have any questions about ways to support their academic growth.
We will begin Kindergarten CLI testing this week.
Kindergarten CLI testing is a state-approved digital assessment used in Texas to monitor a child's early reading, math, and social-emotional development. It serves as a baseline check at the start of the school year and acts as the mandatory dyslexia screener at the end of the year.
Next week is Homecoming week. Please check out the district website and Facebook page for Homecoming events and activities. Next Monday is Labor Day and will be a holiday for both students and staff. Meet the Longhorns will be held next Tuesday, September 8th after the volleyball game.
The 3rd grade art class took their creativity outside this week and grabbed some chalk and turned the front sidewalk into a colorful masterpiece. We also want to thank our fantastic PTO for bringing treats for our staff for crushing the first month of school. Also the Vega FFA is selling yard stakes. Please check out the Vega FFA Booster Facebook page for more information.
Last week the junior high and JV volleyball teams did a great job hosting games and the Varsity volleyball team won a dual match against Holy Cross and Perryton. The Varsity Volleyball team competed against larger schools in the Canyon Randall Volleyball tournament and split their four games, beating 3A Shallowater and 5A Palo Duro in the process. On Friday night the Varsity Longhorn Football team played an exciting game in Clarendon and came away with the victory to start the season 1-0. Everyone talked about how exciting the game was. We are super proud of all of our students and coaches, and teachers.
On Monday the junior high volleyball teams traveled to Olton and won both the 7th and 8th grade games. Tuesday night the JV and Varsity volleyball teams will travel to Hereford and on Thursday and Saturday the junior high volleyball teams will travel to Friona for a tournament. This Friday is the first home football game of the season as the Longhorns host Sunray. This will be a fun night because the Little Longhorn football players will run out of the tunnel and the mini cheerleaders will perform at the pep rally and at halftime. We will also have our first pep rally of the season in the high school gym.
Friday also marks one of our favorite annual events, Goodies with Grandparents.
We are looking forward to seeing all of our grandparents at the elementary school Friday afternoon.
The construction repair projects are finishing up. The back parking lot is now open again. We would like to thank everyone for making adjustments to the drop off and pick up lines as a result of the parking lot work and the relocation of the bus barn.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
