Happy Homecoming Week!

This week is homecoming week for the Longhorns. 

Tuesday night after the volleyball game was Meet the Longhorns. 

Because of the county burn ban, we were not able to have a bonfire this year.

We were fortunate to have the State FFA Officers visit Vega High School last week and speak to our high school students during an assembly focusing on core values and how we chose to shape the person we become. 

Our elementary school hosted Goodies with Grandparents last Friday and it was so much fun having everyone there for the event. 

The Class of 1977 made arrangements to have their Class Monument, located between the flag poles in front of the school, to be refurbished.  The monument looks fantastic and we appreciate the Class of 1977 for working on it. 

 Last week the junior high volleyball team traveled to Friona for a tournament.  The 7th grade won the gold division championship and the 8th grade team won the silver division championship.  The JV volleyball team played a close game at Hereford but came up a little short and the Varsity volleyball team came up on the short end of the scoreboard against the larger classification 4A Hereford. 

Last Friday was the first home game of the season and the Longhorns dominated Sunray from start to finish to improve to 2-0 on the season.  Great job to the team for their hard work! 

We want to congratulate Coach Porton.  Last season he reached 100 career football wins.  With a 2-0 start to this football season, Coach Porton now has 102 football wins and counting - all at Vega High School.  Vega ISD is fortunate to have such a caring and compassionate leader who teaches discipline, teamwork, and hard work and invests so much into our students.  Congratulations Coach!   

Last week the Little Longhorn Football Players were able to run through the tunnel onto the field before the football team.  The Mini-Cheerleaders were also able to perform at the Pep Rally and during halftime of the football game.  They all did such a great job! 

We hope everyone enjoys the Homecoming festivities this week!
