Dear Vega ISD Community:
The first nine-week grading period ended last week and report cards will be sent out this week.
Be sure to continue working with your students on their homework and academic assignments. Just asking your student to explain what they are learning and to discuss their projects or assignments gets them using academic vocabulary and critical thinking.
These easy conversations can go a long way.
This week is the annual Book Fair at the elementary school. Also on Friday is the Donuts with Dudes event in the morning and the last day of the Book Fair. We always look forward to our dads, granddads, and other “dudes” who play a significant role in our students’ lives to join us in this event.
We are super proud of our 2nd-4th graders who did a great job with their AR reading and comprehension goals! They were able to have a celebration party to celebrate their accomplishment. A huge thank you to our parents and teachers for cheering them on and making sure they do the hard things to have big academic success. We appreciate our parents who stocked the “dirty soda” bar and to our servers who helped!
We are continuing many of the excellent grade level events and presentations that really prepare our students for their futures. The junior and senior mock interviews are occurring this week and provide our students with excellent practice in presenting their resumes and interviewing with an adult to gain this experience. We appreciate our adult community/business partner volunteers for serving as interviewers for our students. This type of event isn’t common in every school district and this is something special that Vega provides for our students.
Next time you’re at the football field, be sure to check out the visitor stands. The Ag Mech classes have been working on a class project to build a new ramp on the visitor stands which provides much better accessibility to the stands. They created everything on the project from start to finish. This is an example of excellence and real world training all in one activity! Thank you!
On Tuesday the Cross Country teams did a great job at the District Meet held at Boys Ranch. The junior high girls team were the district champions with three Vega girls sweeping 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The JV boys team had a 2nd place finisher. The Varsity girls team placed 3rd overall and qualified for Regionals and also had an 8th place individual finisher. On the Varsity boys side we had a 2nd place finisher who will advance to Regionals as well!
Last week the Varsity Volleyball team lost at Sanford-Fritch while the JV team pulled out victory. This week the Varsity Volleyball team won at West Texas while the JV narrowly lost in three games. The volleyball team has a bye this weekend and will resume their final week of district play next week.
Best wishes to our band this weekend as they compete in the UIL Marching Contest at Dick Bivens Stadium in Amarillo on Saturday. The football team opens up district play at home this Friday against West Texas High School and the junior high football team travels to West Texas to play on Thursday.
Be sure to visit the district’s webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures from these events.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
Superintendent, Vega ISD
