Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

As we approach the last week of October, our students have been very busy with academic work both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our 3rd and 4th graders took their ELAR interim assessments this week.

This is a practice STAAR test from TEA that predicts student performance on the end-of-year STAAR that will help our teachers work with students and parents on academic strengths and areas for focus and improvement.

Our high school juniors and interested seniors also had the opportunity to take the ACT test this past week.

Our high school marching band competed this past weekend in the UIL Marching Contest.  They have been working so very hard and getting better each week at the football games and during their practices throughout the week.  We are proud of their efforts and look forward to their continued performances.  They certainly lead with the excitement for our pep rallies and games.

The high school inducted our newest members to the National Honor Society this past week.  NHS members demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Last Friday’s Donuts with Dudes was amazing and we had so many dad, granddads, uncles, and other dudes come and support our students!  Our FFA officers are traveling to the National FFA Organization Convention.  They continue to showcase the best of what Ag Mechanics has to offer and represent our school and community so very well.

Next Monday our regional qualifier cross country runners will compete in Lubbock at the Regional Cross Country Meet.  We wish all of our runners the best of luck and congratulations on such a successful season.  Junior high volleyball hosted Friona this past Monday and played well against them.  Last week the junior high football team split their games at West Texas and played very well.  The Varsity Longhorns put up a fight last Friday against West Texas as they opened up district play but came up short.  The Varsity Volleyball team hosted Senior Night this past Tuesday as we honored our four graduating seniors.  Both the Varsity and JV Volleyball teams picked up wins Tuesday against Highland Park.  This upcoming Saturday will be a big volleyball match against Sanford Fritch.  Sanford Fritch has already secured a share of the district championship, but a Lady Horn win against them on Saturday will make the Lady Horns Co-District Champions with them.  Be sure to come out to the game and cheer on the team!

Be sure to visit the district’s webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures from these events.

 Thank you,

Jerry Adams
