Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

What an exciting time to be a Vega Longhorn!

This week is filled with so many events and celebrating accomplishments!

Our FFA, STUCO, FCCLA, Band, and NHS student groups were privileged to host the First Responders Meal this past Friday and appreciate and thank those who serve our community to keep us safe.

We also were able to recognize our A Honor Roll and A/B Honor Roll students this past week.

Our students do a great job maintaining high academic standards!

This week is Red Ribbon Week and our students and staff have been great with their dress up days as we Say No To Drugs and have fun at the same time.  For dress up days this week we had PJ Day so we can Put Drugs to Sleep; Hawaiian Day so we can Lei off Drugs; the elementary and junior high had Disney Day so we can Believe in Magic, not Drugs while the high school had Sandler Swag because we are Too Cool for Drugs; and we had Halloween Costume Day so we could say Boo to Bad Choices.  Our cheerleaders did a great job coming up with the dress up themes!

The Annual PTO Carnival will be this Saturday from 4 PM - 6 PM and will a lot of fun.  There will also be a tailgate party at the football field Friday from 4 PM - 5:40 PM before the final home football game and senior night for football, cheer, band and walking the field for all seniors after the game.

Last week the junior high football teams split some very close games against Gruver.  The 7th grade came up just a little short on the last play of the game and the 8th grade won by preventing a two-point conversion at the end of the game.  The Varsity Longhorns lost at Gruver but are regrouping for their final two district games.

Congratulations to Roland McCray for qualifying for the State Cross Country Meet.  Roland did a great job at the regional cross country meet to earn this opportunity.  We are also super proud of our girls cross country team for competing at the regional cross country meet.  Our runners did such a great job this year.

Our junior high girls volleyball won both district games this past Monday at Sanford-Fritch to finish up their season and the 7th grade Lady Horns finished their season undefeated.  The JV volleyball finished up their season as well and did a great job.

Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team for defeating Sanford-Fritch in three games on Saturday to capture a Co-District Championship!  The Varsity Volleyball team will play Smyer this Thursday at Dimmitt for their Bi-District Volleyball playoff game.

Another congratulations goes to our own Mr. Newton who received his Honorary American FFA Degree during the 99th Annual National FFA Convention.  We are also proud to celebrate Vega graduates who also received their American FFA degree as well - Anabelle Cline, Maigyn Ellis, Nash Fowler, and Mason Neelley.

Be sure to visit the district’s webpage and Facebook pages for more information and pictures from these events.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
